OVERVIEW

New York City sits in a category of its own, matched perhaps only by London, Hong Kong, or Paris. Its five boroughs—Manhattan, Queens, The Bronx, Brooklyn, and Staten Island—are each brimming with their own unique flavor, and world-class museums, theaters, and dining.

By simply walking down a random street, you’re bound to find something to do—whether it’s stumbling into a comedy show, an art gallery, or a family-owned restaurant that’s become an integral part of the local community, and this all adds to the overall sense of New York somehow just being cultural Holy Ground.

Still, if you visit NYC, we think there are a few things that you can’t miss.

Here's what we think should form the core of your experience:

Art & Fashion

New York City is a global art capital with few equals. Many artists we know and love today began their craft right in the heart of the city—think Jean-Michael Basquiat, Andy Warhol, Jackson Pollock, and Georgia O’Keefe, amongst hundreds of others.

Whether you are a lover of watercolor, a film buff, or theater aficionado, NYC has a place for you. If you happen to be someone who likes to wear your art in addition to experiencing it, you will find yourself in heaven as you roam the cobblestone streets of SoHo and Chelsea Market.

Here, you will find a mix of avante-garde and more on-trend pieces from both established designers and emerging artists.

Cuisine & Culture

For the culinary lover, this is paradise. New York City is home to immigrants from nearly every corner of the world, comprising an impressive 30% of the population.

Each of the city's various neighborhoods where different groups settled boast impressive testaments to their heritage and traditions. NYC also delivers when it comes to nightlife.

In a neighborhood like the East Village, exit the restaurant you chose for dinner and turn left—or right—and you’ll find everything from dive bars with live bands to sophisticated cocktail lounges to suit literally any taste or fancy.

History & Sights

Between 1892 and 1954, over 12 million immigrants passed through Ellis Island, bringing their cultures and stories with them.

New York City is home to some of the most iconic sites in the world—think the Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge, Greenwich Village, the Rockefeller Center, and Central Park, to name a few—which have all helped to shape the identity and spirit of American culture.

With proper planning, you can visit all of these and more, and still not feel rushed, leaving space to make serendipitous discoveries of your own along the way.
