Three careers and three countries later, history, art, and literature specialist Irina is probably an easy shoo-in for a ‘never sits still’ award.
She’s an ever-eager learner and mediator of all things art and history, and will make sure to thread a running narrative through from any point in the past up until the day you meet her.
Irina moves from museums to city streets with ease, and having guided first in France, and now in Amsterdam, she’s an expert on all things French history & the Dutch Golden Age. In keeping with the practice of the very best guides, it’s the continuity aspect that fascinates her, the way that the past has informed Dutch society, and the Dutch mentality in ways which are still recognisable today.
Perhaps it is the former journalist in her, or perhaps it is the former digital marketer that understands how to make a punchy narrative out of the abstract, to bring to life the way that Rembrandt’s use of impasto anchors him firmly in an artistic tradition that spans all the way from Titian to Pollock.
And, she's also a mum to a very spirited little boy, whom she admits with humour challenges her daily in ways nothing else has.
