Art & Culture
Often regarded as Latin America’s cultural capital, Buenos Aires is home to world-class museums like the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes and MALBA, which showcase both European masterpieces and Argentina’s unique artistic contributions.
Nightlife & Traditional Tango
Buenos Aires is the birthplace of tango. This passionate dance originated in working-class neighborhoods as a means of uniting dock workers and prostitutes, and as such the city has a complex relationship with it, despite its long since having grown into a place of international glamour.
Tango music fills the air in milongas (tango clubs) and on vibrant street corners, reflecting the city's soul and sensuality. Beyond tango, Buenos Aires is a melting pot of musical genres, from traditional folk music to contemporary rock and electronic beats, showcasing Argentina's diverse cultural heritage.
Buenos Aires enjoys a global reputation for its vibrant nightlife. For bustling bars and clubs that specialise in pop music and club classics, the Palermo district has it all.
If you’re more interested in authentic Argentinian music and tango, however, spend an evening in the San Telmo district.
Café Culture & Culinary Delights
Buenos Aires is renowned for its café culture, where locals gather to sip rich espresso, indulge in medialunas (croissants), and engage in lively conversations.
The city's culinary scene is a fusion of flavors influenced by Spanish, Italian, and indigenous cuisines. From sizzling steaks and empanadas to decadent dulce de leche desserts, Buenos Aires tantalizes taste buds and celebrates the art of dining as a social ritual.
If there’s a quintessential Argentinian dining experience, then Asado, traditional barbecue —both a technique and an event— is it. If you love steak, the beef fed on the vast, fertile grasslands of the Argentinian Pampas is unbeatable. Buenos Aires steakhouses serve up classics such as ‘bife de chorizo’ (sirloin) throughout the city.
When making your way, it’s also handy to understand that the term Parilla refers to both the grill itself, and restaurants that specialise in its usage. Empanadas, a quintessential Argentinian street food, come in a wide range of fillings, from chicken to beef to cheese. They pair wonderfully with a hearty Carbonada Criolla stew and Argentina’s deep and dark red wines.
